About HalfMarathons.Net
Launched for the first time in August 2006, HalfMarathons.Net is the
brainchild of Terrell Johnson, an Atlanta-based writer and runner who
had been searching for some time for a site that collected all of the
information available on the Web specifically about half-marathon races
only.
As a runner for several years -- I've run three full marathons,
several 10K races, a triathlon and now my first half-marathon in 2007
-- I could find plenty of information about half marathon events, but
only after looking across quite a large number of websites. This is my
attempt to put it all in one place for users just like me, who are
looking to learn more specifically about this increasingly popular
event and where they can take part in it.
The
site's beginnings
When I first set up and published the site, I envisioned it solely as a
list of links to other half marathon event sites, in states across the
U.S. and around the world (and indeed, that's still what you see on
some pages on the site). But as I began working on it, I realized the
need for additional, more robust information in one place on the Web,
and so I began adding more and more information about each event. Now,
the site has become an ever-enlarging thing (it's over 450 pages now),
and promises to keep growing as we add more events.
I say "we" because now I've begun to hear from runners and writers
across the country who are interested in contributing to the site, and
who have made wonderful, invaluable additions with information they've
provided on races I was not aware of. I've also enlisted the help of
writers I've contacted, who are also working on creating richly
informative pages and articles for the site on different half marathon
events as well as tips and race stories of their own.
Where
we're headed
We plan to continue to add more and more race events to the site to
provide a truly comprehensive resource for Web users looking to find
out more about different events around the world, and our goal is to
become the go-to resource on the Internet for information on half
marathons anywhere in the world.
Forums and message
boards
are also now open, to provide an online community for
this site's readers and new users who come to the site. We also welcome
your ideas on new features or ways to improve the site -- simply email
