HalfMarathons.Net Reader's Race Story
A reader from Taiwan sent in this review of the 2006 Taroko Half
Marathon:
"Imagine running a race where you have a river on one side and majestic
mountains surrounding you on both sides, with occasional areas of
unique rainbow granite marble, waterfall, and Chinese designed
monuments. Where is this? You wouldn’t expect such a gorgeous
place in the crowded country of Taiwan, but that is where this took
place.
"I ran my first half-marathon in the most amazing place in Taiwan in
the Taroko Gorge near Hualien on the East Coast. I have to give all
praise and glory to God that I could complete this race as I was very
sick the night before, but I was able to run the whole race and
complete without collapsing and in less than 3 hours, which was my
first goal as a first time participant in the half-marathon. They also
have a 5K race and full marathon for those who are really in shape. (It
is in the gorge, so there are lots of hills!) Check out their web site
at www.sportsnet.org.tw/en/ The race is usually held the first weekend
in November.
"There is also a half-marathon in September on Green Island off the
east coast of Taiwan. I haven’t done the race, but have
visited the island and it has breathtaking scenery also. Enjoy!!
