Event Details

For runners looking for a flat race course that they can use as a tune-up for the London Marathon later in the spring, the Adidas Silverstone Half Marathon is thought of by many past participants as the perfect course. Set at 13.5 miles long, just beyond the regulation half-marathon distance, this race takes runners on an almost all flat course that starts and finishes at the Silverstone motor racing circuit in Northamptonshire, England, the home of the world-famous British Grand Prix Formula 1 racing championship.

Runners follow the roughly 3.1-mile paved racing circuit through much of the race, making laps around the track itself as well as into the pitlanes, along a bridge over the racing track, and into both the track's infield and outfield areas. For fans of Formula 1 auto racing, the race combines running with the feel of being on the actual race track used for decades each year in the British Grand Prix (which will move to a new home, Donington Park, after the 2009 race).

Thanks perhaps to its relatively forgiving track and few changes in elevation, the race attracts plenty of "characters," including participants running dressed up in banana costumes, Superman outfits, and even parade-style floats. What this means also is that the race offers runners an excellent opportunity to score personal best times, which many of the more than 6,700 runners who finished the 2009 running of the race certainly achieved.

Race Weather & Climate

Located roughly 100 kilometers northwest of the city of London, the village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire typically experiences weather conditions much like those of towns around the surrounding central southern England region, which is to say it sees plenty of rain throughout the year, with very cool and occasionally cold temperatures as winter is giving way to spring. In March, the town's average monthly temperatures range between 10°C and 3°C.
