Event Details

Nearly 1,500 runners ran the course and crossed the finish line in the summer of 2008 at the 10th annual running of Stantonbury's NSPCC Milton Keynes Half Marathon, which has become increasingly popular in Buckinghamshire since its inaugural running through the streets of Stantonbury, Giffard Park, Downhead Park and Milton Keynes village. Designed as a fundraiser for the local offices of the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, the race offers runners a largely fast and flat course that organizers say is considered ideal for runners looking to clock personal best times.

The race course for the Milton Keynes Half starts and finishes at Bury Lawn School in Stantonbury, and from there takes runners on an out-and-back loop course that follows what is largely a clockwise direction through the neighborhoods of Giffard Park, Willen (and past the tranquil waters of Willen Lake), through Milton Keynes Village and Middleton, and up through Newlands, Downhead Park and Great Linford on the way back up to the finish line at the school.

Runners can expect plenty of long, flat stretches throughout the race, as much of the course takes the field alongside the numerous waterways that criss-cross their way through the neighborhoods of Stantonbury and Milton Keynes. The race route crosses the river that connects with Willen Lake twice, around both the mile 4 marker and just after the mile 7 marker, and runners will follow the trail that runs alongside the river for most of the last four miles of the race, all the way from Springfield up to Great Linford.

The race starting time is 10:00 AM, and all runners are asked to be at the starting line and ready to run at 9:50 AM. Massages will be available for runners both before and after the race, and the race also offers a Team Challenge for corporate relay teams who wish to participate.

Located in central southern England, about midway between Birmingham and London and just over 30 kilometers by car from nearby Northampton, the town of Milton Keynes typically experiences its warmest weather conditions of the year in July and August, when the days are long and much sunnier than in the rest of the year. In July, the town's average monthly temperatures range between 22°C and 12°C, and rainfall is always a possibility.
