Details
Featuring a coastal route that takes runners along the shoreline of the
Irish Sea's North Channel, from the center of town out along the water
and back, the Premier Power Larne Half Marathon brought an estimated
500 runners and walkers out for its spring 2008 running, and in 2009
will feature a relay race in addition to its individual participant
half marathon. While those walking and running the course will cover
all 13.1 miles, relay participants will see their race divided into
three legs, of about 5 miles, 3 miles and 5 miles, in that order.
All entrants will follow the same course, which begins at the Larne
Leisure Centre on Tower Road near Larne's city center and follows a
route that runs
northwest out along the A2 Highway (Coast Road), through Blackcave
Tunnel and past Drains Bay and Ballygalley Head to the turnaround point
near Ballygalley and Cairncastle, and then follows a southeasterly
route back along the coastal road to the finish line near the race
starting
area.
Those walking the race will begin the route an hour before the runners,
at 12 noon local time (followed by the runners, who begin at 1 PM). All
race participants will finish back at the Larne Leisure Centre, on the
promenade side of the centre.

Weather & Climate
Perched along the northeastern coast of Northern Ireland, about a
35-minute north from Belfast and just across the North Channel of the
Irish Sea from Wales, the city of Larne typically experiences weather
conditions much like those of the rest of the northern coast of the
country -- with plenty of wind, cloudy and misty conditions and rain
year-round, and generally cool temperatures even in the summer months.
In March, the city's average monthly temperatures range between
9°C (48°F) and 5°C (41°F).
