Heart of the Ozarks Half Marathon, Relay & 10K

Saturday, February 17, 2024 • West Plains, MO • Course Map

Set for its 11th annual running this year, after just over 230 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined last year, the Heart of the Ozarks Half Marathon takes runners on a route through this small city near Missouri’s southern border that organizers say is “mostly flat, with a few well-placed hills.”

The race begins at Southern Hills Shopping Center just off Preacher Roe Boulevard, and from there runners will make their way north into West Plains, where those running the half marathon will make two loops – a smaller, “inner” loop first, followed by a second, larger “outer” loop.

Those running the 10K will run only the first, inner loop, while the half marathoners will head back through Courthouse Square and past the campus of Missouri State University-West Plains on their way toward Webster Avenue and the Ozarks Medical Center, a stretch that will feature some of the hilliest parts of the race.

The second half of the race features many of the same stretches as the first half, as runners will cover several of the same streets – 1st Street, Broadway Street, Grace Avenue and Main Street. They’ll pass by Courthouse Square a second time before making the turn to head south back to Southern Hills Shopping Center for the race finish.

Last year’s finishers had an average finishing time of just over 2 hours, 5 minutes, and if you’re not up for running all 13.1 miles yourself, you can gather up three friends for the 4-person half marathon relay – it features four different distances: 4K, 5K, 8K and another 4K stretch.
