Saturday, November 12, 2016 • Asheville, NC • Course Map

149-racereach_registerSet to run through one of the most quintessential and beautiful mountain towns in western North Carolina, the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NC Race 13.1 Asheville Half Marathon features stretches along the scenic Reed Creek Greenway, past the beautiful Asheville Botanical Gardens and the campus of UNC-Asheville.

The race will start and end in the heart of downtown Asheville at the historic Pack Square Park, and feature some of the best sights and sounds Asheville has to offer. While every Race 13.1 event has ample portable toilets at the start / finish line so that lines before the race are never too long, runners will also get to use the public restrooms in the park.

The 6.5-acre park is filled with many seating areas, three water features, and lush landscaping, making it the perfect venue to relax and enjoy yourself after completing the race.

After starting the race on South Spruce Street next to the park, runners will next make a short loop through historic downtown Asheville, followed by a trek through a number of beautiful residential neighborhoods before hopping on the scenic Reed Creek Greenway.

Runners will then pass by the Asheville Botanical Gardens and onto the campus of the University of North Carolina-Asheville before turning around by the historic Grove Park Inn. And you’ll get to see everything on the course a second time, as runners will retrace their steps all the way back to Pack Square Park for the race finish.

The course features rolling hills with numerous flat sections to compliment. For a mountain town race, this course won’t overwhelm runners with too many difficult climbs.

Race 13.1 is the fastest growing half marathon race series in the country providing runners ‘Big Race Perks with a Local Race Feel.’ All half marathon finishers will be presented with a custom finisher medal that is unique to Asheville, and will also receive high-quality tech tee shirts with a similar design.

The course will be staffed with plenty of well stocked, well-staffed aid stations and lots of enthusiastic course monitors along the way. Runners can expect to have a text message from Race 13.1 with a link to the live results waiting for them when they cross the finish line, along with a post-race party.

If I plan to run it, can I correct your spelling? “The course features rolling hills with numerous flat sections to compliment” should be “complement.” Now I’ll keep training…
