Event Details

With a fast course that takes runners over gentle hills through Auburn's scenic bicycle trails and paths, the Auburn Classic Half Marathon is part of the Alabama State Half Marathon Championship and is run to benefit the American Cancer Society. Just over 120 runners came out to run the race at its 2008 running, on an out-and-back course that starts and finishes at Auburn's Moore's Mill Fitness Center and takes runners out past Chewalca State Park and to the Auburn Links Golf Course and back.

The event also features what race organizers call the Children's Half Marathon, open to any interested kids who would like to complete a half-marathon over a period of many weeks. Kids are encouraged to start in the fall and run or walk about one mile per week. On the day of the race, the children who participate will run the last 0.6 miles of the half with that day's runners and finish at the main finish line.

Race Weather & Climate

Located in the mid-section of the state about 20 miles west of the Alabama-Georgia state line, Auburn can see quite cold temperatures in the winter, with January temperatures averaging between 34°F and 55°F. Come prepared for rain, as the area sees an average of just over 5.3 inches of precipitation in January.
