Details
More than 200 runners came out to compete on a day with cool, overcast
and occasionally rainy conditions at the spring 2008 running of
Anchorage's Trent/Waldron
Glacier Half Marathon, which takes runners alongside Chester Creek and
down the shoreline of the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, along what is
mostly a fast and flat race on biking, walking and jogging paths.
Runners experience a few hills during the race, most notably
along the coastal trail near Anchorage's Earthquake Park, where the
course elevation climbs roughly 150 feet as runners make their way
along mile markers 9 and 10.
The last few miles of the race -- which is organized by the Anchorage
Running Club -- are largely
flat, as runners make their way back to the starting area for the
finish line at the Westchester Lagoon. The race course is divided into
two out-and-back stretches, the first along the Chester Creek Trail and
the second (longer) out-and-back stretch takes place along the Tony
Knowles Coastal Trail, and is the stretch that includes the run past
Earthquake Park, where a residential subdivision famously collapsed
into the earth following the area's famed 1964 earthquake.
