Details
Run as a benefit and fundraiser for the Phoenix Children's Hospital
Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, this new race got its start in
2006 in honor of London Solomon,
a local six-year-old who bravely
fought and lost her battle with a particularly aggressive form of
leukemia the previous year. Thanks to her courage and willingness to
take on the very difficult challenge of fighting her disease, the race
is a memorial to her, and inspires its participants, volunteers and
spectators to share in her same courage.
Perfectly suited for beginning half-marathoners as well as experienced
runners, this out-and-back loop race starts and finishes in the
countryside just outside the city of Queen Creek, in the area known as
Schnepf Farms. From the farm, the race proceeds along a level, even
course along a mixture of paved and unpaved country roads, through
peaceful, quiet farming communities.
All participants (runners and walkers in the half marathon, 10K and
2-mile run/walk) share the same starting line and are separated in
their starting times by 10-minute waves -- the half-marathon begins at
8:00 AM, while the 10K and 2-Mile begin at 8:10 and 8:20, respectively.
