Details
Race time at downtown Prescott's Montezuma and Gurley starting line for
the Whiskey Row Marathon & Half Marathon is 7:00 AM for
half-marathoners, and full marathon participants can race as early as
5:00 AM if they like. The event organizers say this is one of the
toughest marathons anywhere in the United States, with a course that
begins at 5,280 feet above sea level and climbs to over 7,000 feet
during the race. The half marathon is just as challenging, running
southward from downtown Prescott along Copper Basin Road past
Hassayampa Country Club and Rancho Vista Estates.
With paved roads for most of the first half of the race, the terrain
then becomes rugged, run along forest trail roads.
Weather conditions can be severe, and emergency vehicles are staffed an
on the course throughout
the race for any participants who get dizzy or experience pain or
exhaustion.
