Cancelled for 2008

Event Details

A small yet very scenic race event that captures the sights and the feel of Arizona's open roads, the White Mountain Half Marathon offers a high-elevation run with gently sloping hills throughout, capped by a downhill run from the mountains to the valley in the town of Eagar. The race will celebrate just its 5th annual running in 2008, and takes runners from the nearby Escudilla Mountain Wilderness at the start to the Coronado Trail Scenic Byway along the finish.

The 13.1-mile half marathon course is run on paved surfaces throughout the race, which begins in the small village of Nutrioso at about 7,500 feet above sea level and follows a mostly gentle downhill grade for the first 8 miles of the race. By the time they reach the 9 mile marker, runners begin a slightly steeper uphill to the race's peak elevation of about 7,600 feet at mile 10.5. From there, the course is all downhill to the finish.

Aid & refreshment stations are provided at three-mile intervals along the course, and runners are limited to three and a half hours on the course (the race closes at 11:00 AM).

Race Weather & Climate

Late summer/early fall weather in this Arizona town, located in the central portion of the state just 10 miles from its eastern border with New Mexico, tends to be relatively warm to cool, evidenced by September temperatures that average between 76°F and 42°F. Local rainfall is also fairly low this time of year, averaging about 1.49 inches for the month.

Fees

$40 if registered before August 31, 2007
$45 from Sept. 1 through the day of the race
Race day registration available, unless the race reaches its maximum of 250 runners before race day
