Event Details

The park roads and country highways leading out from the Arkansas portion of the Ouachita National Forest form the backdrop for the course at the annual springtime running of the Camp Yorktown Bay Half Marathon & 10K, an out-and-back race that takes runners from Camp Yorktown Bay on the shores of Lake Ouachita all the way up Strawberry Road and back to the camp for the finish.

Designed as an event that's both fundraiser and awareness-raiser for the mission of the camp, a Christian retreat and family center that hosts several hundred children and teenagers every year for both outdoor recreation and Christian education, the race features ample views of the gorgeous natural scenery surrounding the camp and the lake, from the eastern section of the approximately 1.8 million-acre Ouachita National Forest here in Arkansas to the hilly, tree-lined roads along which the race course unfolds.

Runners can expect the steepest hills in the race around roughly the mile 2 marker on the way out (and about the mile 11 marker on the way back), around the section of the route that curves around Mountain Pine Road. The race begins at 8:00 AM, and race organziers hold a post-race party for all finishers and their family and friends after the event, at which they'll hold a vegetarian banquet and awards ceremony.
