Details
Runners get a chance to enjoy the fresh air, blue skies and mountains,
lakes and trees of northern Arkansas' Ozark Mountains region at the
Mountain Home Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K for Kenya, which
raises both funds for and awareness about the town's connection with
the families and children of the African village of Katito in Kenya,
where many of those organizing the race visit and volunteer each year
as part of the nonprofit organization known as World Vision.
From the starting line at Mountain Home Senior High School, all three
races in the event start early --
half-marathon participants need to be ready by 7:00 AM for the shuttle
to the half starting line, which lies at the 13.1-mile point in the
full marathon. The half course
features a three-quarter mile downhill at the beginning, followed by a
flat, fast run along the White River, to the finish at the Denton Ferry
RV Park. A shuttle will take runners back to the High School for a
post-race meal and an award cermony that starts at noon.
