Event Details

The mild ocean breezes and flat, forgiving terrain of the Southern California farmland areas just outside Los Angeles form the backdrop for the race route at the Camarillo Half Marathon, 5K & 10K, which will have its inaugural running in the spring of 2009 along a route that starts and finishes at the city's Freedom Park, not far from its airport. Designed as a fundraiser for the local chapter of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the race is described by organizers as "all flat and blazing fast," with stretches through the city's famous strawberry fields and with views of the nearby Conejo Mountains.

From the Freedom Park grounds, which lie just south of the airport off Pleasant Valley Road -- you'll be able to see planes landing and taking off nearby -- the course takes runners on an out-and-back route that runs first in a southerly direction, down along Pleasant Valley Road and then turning onto Las Posas Road. Runners turn left again on Cawelti Road, a stretch that takes them toward the edge of the mountain range, which they run along after turning right on Lewis Road.

This stretch of the course keeps runners heading southwest until they reach Laguna Road, where they turn right and head away from the mountains and back toward the flat farmland areas, turning again on Las Posas for the stretch that takes them back northward toward Freedom Park once again. There is a final stretch that runs alongside the airport, as runners head out along Aviation Drive before the final turnaround and head back to the park for the finish.
