Set for its third annual running in mid-November 2012, the Fishbowl Half Marathon, 10K and 5K takes runners on a clockwise loop route along the hills, park roads and pathways that wind through the 600+ acres of Fountain Valley's Mile Square Regional Park for a smaller-sized race that saw just over 80 runners cross the finish line in all races combined last year.
All races start at the northern end of the park along Edinger Avenue, and then follow a course that winds along the park roads and paved trails along the edges of the golf courses and softball and baseball fields. Runners in the half marathon make three loops around the course before crossing the finish line near the intersection of Edinger and Brookhurst Street, in the northwest corner of the park.
The race also is run in conjunction with Caring S.H.O.S., a locally based non-profit whose acronym stands for "Students Helping Other Students." Proceeds from the race will go toward the organization's mission to help students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds by providing clothing and supplies to help prevent them from having to drop out of college due to financial issues.

Located in Southern California's Orange County, roughly 35 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles and about 10 miles south of Anaheim, Fountain Valley typically sees November temperatures that average between 74°F and 51°F, while rainfall totals average just over 1.1 inches for the month. On the day of the race (Nov. 17), the average high is 74°F and the average low is 50°F.
