California > Half Marathon of the Harbors & Ventura Harbor 5K
Ventura, CA  •  Sunday, April 1, 2012  •  Course Map

With gorgeous views of the Pacific Ocean for nearly all of the 13.1-mile race route, Ventura's all-new Half Marathon of the Harbors makes its second annual running along a very flat and fast course here along the Ventura and Channel Islands harbors in the early spring of 2012.

Runners will follow an out-and-back course for the race that starts and finishes at the Ventura Harbor Village just off Harbor Boulevard. Starting at 7:00 AM, runners then leave the village and head out onto Harbor Boulevard, where they turn right and head south along the oceanfront toward Oxnard Shores Park and Mandalay County Park, heading south for roughly the next three miles all the way until they reach 5th Street, where they turn right and head into the Oxnard Shores neighborhood.

Between the mile 4 and mile 9 markers, runners actually get the closest to the shoreline as they will get during the race, heading past the homes here along the beach along Mandalay Beach Road. The waves coming in along the beach will be right over runners' shoulders as they continue southward along Mandalay Beach for the next couple of miles, and as they pass Oxnard Beach Park on their way down to the turnaround point on Sunset Lane, and just before reaching West Channel Park.

Here among the Channel Islands Harbor area, runners then make the half-way turnaround and then start the second half of the race, which brings them northward through Oxnard Shores a second time along Mandalay Boulevard, through Mandalay County Park and Oxnard Shores Park a second time as well back toward Harbor Boulevard, which they'll turn left onto for the final three miles of the race that bring them back up to Ventura Harbor Village, where they'll cross the finish line. Thanks largely to its location near the Pacific Ocean, runners can expect a nearly all-flat course throughout the race.

Runners will have a three-hour course time limit for the half marathon and the 5K, and organizers plan to limit the number of entrants in the race to 1,000 for the half marathon and 300 for the 5K. Following the 7:00 AM start for the half marathon, the 5K is scheduled to start at 8:15 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along the Southern California coastline, just over 65 miles west of downtown Los Angeles and about 17 miles south of Ojai, Ventura typically sees mild to moderately warm weather virtually year-round, as April temperatures average between 74°F and 46°F. On the day of the race (April 1), the average high is 73°F and the average low is 44°F, while rainfall is scarce this time of year, averaging less than an inch total for the month.
