California > Holly Jolly Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
Camarillo, CA  •  Sunday, December 16, 2012  •  Course Map

Set for its inaugural running on one of the final weekends before the Christmas holiday -- and designed to help raise money for Toys for Tots, as a portion of the proceeds from the race will be donated to the children's charity -- the Holly Jolly Half Marathon takes runners on a double-loop course around the streets of this small Southern California city that lies just outside Los Angeles.

The race is set to start near Rancho Calleguas Park, along Calle Tecate/Camarillo Ranch Road, which lies just off Flynn Road near the Camarillo Business Park area. From there, runners follow a loop that first heads north along Flynn Road and then takes runners onto the bike path that winds through the neighborhoods and through Rancho Calleguas Park for roughly two miles, before runners rejoin the roadway at Mission Oaks Boulevard.

Though they're not really too steep at all, the hilliest portions of the race occur in the first couple of miles and then again right after runners pass the half-way point, as they'll make two loops to complete their 13.1 miles (runners in the 10K make a single loop). They'll also head along Adolfo Road and past Adolfo Camarillo High School before turning back onto Mission Oaks Road for the stretch that heads back toward Rancho Calleguas Park.

Runners as well as walkers will find the course welcoming, as the hills are largely gentle and not challenging, and organizers plan to keep the course open for four hours to allow all entrants plenty of time to finish. The scheduled starting time for the half marathon is 8:00 AM, followed by the 10K at 8:10 AM and the 5K at 8:15 AM.
