Event Details

The winter of 2009 brings a brand-new half marathon event to the Los Angeles County area here in Southern California, as the site of the annual L.A. County Fair will play host to the inaugural running of the L.A. County Half Marathon at Fairplex, which will also include a half-marathon for inline skaters, a 5K for runners and walkers, a bicycling event and a one-mile fun run for kids.

From the starting line inside the Fairplex, which lies about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, runners in the half will follow an out-and-back loop course that takes them in roughly a counter-clockwise direction out from the fairgrounds and around the shoreline of Puddingstone Reservoir, through Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park and past the planes landing and taking off at nearby Brackett Field airport.

Hilly and challenging in some spots, particularly in the middle stretch of the race from mile 5 through 7, the course for the race takes runners through a combination of residential neighborhoods, past the tree-lined fairways of Mountain Meadows Golf Course and through more industrial-looking areas as the race nears the finish line along the eastern edges of the Fairplex fairgrounds. Runners can expect paved surfaces throughout the race as well, and will be limited to five hours to complete the half marathon's 13.1 miles.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled just south of the Glendora Wilderness Park in the Angeles National Forest, about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, the city of Pomona typically experiences weather much like the larger metro area in which it lies, which means that it usually sees warm, very dry summers and mild to cool winter seasons, with relatively low rainfall. In December, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 68°F and 41°F, while rainfall totals average just over 2 inches for the month.

Fees

$60 for the half marathon, if registered by September 30, 2009
$70 between October 1 - November 15
$80 between Nov. 16 - December 12
