Details
Set along the dirt fire trails of Lake Chalbot in Castro Valley,
Calif., the Lake Chalbot Trail Challenge Half Marathon offers a rugged,
challenging course for runners, with plenty of hills along a loop
course throughout the park. The race takes place just a short drive
from the nearby cities of Oakland and San Leandro in the Bay Area,
along the lake's 20 miles of hiking trails -- which connect to another
70 miles of trails in nearby Anthony Chalbot Regional Park.
The park's 315 acres play host throughout the year to fishing and
boating enthusiasts, as it is stocked with trout and catfish as well as
with plenty of rental canoes and tour boats. The park also offers ample
hiking, bicycling and jogging trails, and tourists can enjoy seasonal
lake tours aboard the park's flagship "Chalbot Queen."
The half marathon time limit is three hours, and all races begin at
8:00 AM (the event also features a 5K race and a free children's fun
run for kids under 10).
