Details
The first of two new half marathons that will have their inaugural
running in the fall of 2009 (the other is November's Lake
Casitas Half
Marathon), the Ojai Valley Half
Marathon will take runners on a tour of
the city streets and parks of this Ventura County town that lies in the
shadow of the Los Padres National Forest to the north, and is
surrounded by mountains and hills in all directions.
The Ojai Valley Half will feature a point-to-point course that starts
in the city's historic downtown district, on West Ojai Avenue near the
Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, and follows a winding route from there past
city parks like Libbey park and Sarzotti Park, and features stretches
that take runners right along the edge of the national forest just to
the north. Relatively flat for its first few miles, the race gradually
builds to its biggest uphill stretch just after runners cross the
half-way point, along Thacher Road.
After runners make the turn off Thacher south onto McAndrew Road, the
course begins a mostly downhill gradual stretch as its winds its way
back through town and along the Venture River into Soule Park, where
the finish line lies near the park's golf course.

Weather & Climate
Located just south of the Los Padres National Forest in Southern
California, just under 90 miles northwest of Los
Angeles, the town of Ojai typically experiences mild to moderately warm
weather in the mid-fall season, with mostly dry weather throughout the
summer and early fall. In October, the city's average monthly
temperatures range between 82°F and 47°F, while
rainfall amounts average just over half an inch for the month.
