Details
Organized by the local running and event organization Pacific Coast
Trail Runs, this race takes runners through the challenging hills of
Pacifica's San Pedro Valley Park, which lies just a short drive from
San Francisco to the north. Run for the past three years through this
scenic natural area, the Pacifica Trail Run saw just under 200 runners
cross the finish line at the 2008 running of the race in all four races
combined, which include a 9K, 30K and 50K race in addition to the 21K
half-marathon distance race.
Runners in the 21K race follow the route along the park's Hazelnut and
North Peak trails, which take the field of participants past parts of
the park overlooking Weller Ranch, Brooks Creek and Montara Mountain,
in addition to the park's North Peak and Whiting Ridge. For the half
marathon, runners will encounter an overall elevation change of about
2,930 feet, so they'll need to be prepared for a challenging,
up-and-down race through this mostly undisturbed mountainous area.
Though race organizers note that aid stations will be placed at regular
intervals along the course (roughly every 9 to 11 kilometers), runners
are strongly encouraged to carry a water bottle with them to ensure
they stay well hydrated during the race. At the aid stations, they'll
have water in addition to plenty of fruit and salty snacks, and
electrolyte sports drinks.

Weather & Climate
Located just over 14 miles south of San Francisco in Northern
Califoria, the town of Pacifica sees weather typical of the San
Francisco Bay area, with cool to moderately warm temperatures
throughout most of the year. In January, average monthly temperatures
range between 56°F and 45°F, while rainfall totals
average about 6.34 inches for the month.
