Event Details

Now run in honor of local running enthusiast and race organizer Paul Reese, who put together the race that started as a 20-mile race back in 1966 and later became what is now the Clarksburg Country Run, which also includes a 13.1-mile half marathon, 30K, 5K and one-mile and half-mile "fun run" races for kids, the Paul Reese Memorial Clarksburg Country Run will mark its 43rd annual running in 2008 in this city just south of Sacramento, making it one of the community's longest-running road race events.

All of the races in the event are out-and-back races that start and finish in front of Clarksburg's Delta High School, which lies on Netherlands Road just to the west of the river. From there, runners follow a course that zigzags along Netherlands Road, Holland Road, Clarksburg Avenue and Tule Avenue, taking runners westward and southward all the way down to the turnaround point on South Netherlands Road, where they then make the turn and head back up toward the high school in reverse along the exact course they've just run.

More than 1,100 runners crossed the finish line at the race's 2007 running in the four races for adults (the half marathon, 30K, 20-miler and 5K), with more than 300 of those finishing the half marathon. Those running the half marathon start their race at 9:30 AM, after the first group -- those running the 20-mile run -- start their race at 9:00 AM. For half-marathoners, there is a time limit of three hours, 45 minutes, which means that the 13.1-mile course is also walker-friendly, as participants will need to keep a pace of at most 17 minutes per mile.

Like the courses for each of the other races in the event, the half-marathon course is run entirely on paved surfaces throughout, along country roads that wind through the Clarksburg area's wine growing areas and farmlands. The course is also certified by USA Track and Field.
