California >  Quicksilver Challenge Half Marathon, 10K & 5K
San Jose, CA

Date

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Event Details

With a course that takes runners through scenic, hilly dirt roads along the historic quicksilver mining territory of Almaden County Quicksilver Park, the Quicksilver Challenge Half Marathon is part of a weekend full of events that also includes a 10K run and 5K kids' race and walk, as well as a 50K and 50-mile race. The course for the half takes participants through the park's peaceful oak forests and through open meadows, with ample views of the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains and Santa Clara Valley.

The starting time for the race is at 8:00 AM, and it starts and finishes at the parking lot of the Hacienda entrace to Almaden County Quicksilver Park. Awards presentations will be held for the 5K, 10K and half marathon finishers at succeeding times throughout the morning.

The 4,157-acre park is considered one of the surrounding area's most scenic parks, as it spans most of the Los Capitancillos Ridge, running southeast from the Guadalupe Landfill to Almaden Reservoir. Bordering two long reservoirs, the park contains a number of small ponds and also boasts plenty of steep hillsides, open meadows and deep valleys.
