Event Details

A trail race that takes runners through the scenic and hilly dirt roads of Almaden County Quicksilver Park just to the south of San Jose, the Quicksilver Challenge Half Marathon & 10K has a course that will challenge beginner as well as seasoned trail runners, and offers plenty of scenery along the area's historic quicksilver mining country, with a mix of wooded trails, peaceful oak forests and open meadows along the out-and-back 13.1-mile course.

From the starting line at the Hacienda entrance to the park at the intersection of Almaden and Bertram Roads, the race takes runners on a counter-clockwise loop route through the park's hills and mountainous areas, along which runners have ample views of the nearby Santa Cruz Mountains and the Santa Clara Valley. The half-marathon course unfolds all the way out to the northern shore of the Guadalupe Reservoir, where runners then hit the turnaround point and begin their trek back toward the finish along the southern part of the loop trail, along the park's Mine Hill Trail.

The 4,157-acre park is considered one of the surrounding area's most scenic parks, as it spans most of the Los Capitancillos Ridge, running southeast from the Guadalupe Landfill to Almaden Reservoir. Bordering two long reservoirs, the park contains a number of small ponds and also boasts plenty of steep hillsides, open meadows and deep valleys.

In addition to the half marathon race, the event also hosts a 10K, both of which share the same starting line and time (8:00 AM), at the park's Hacienda entrance parking lot.
