Event Details

Northern California's Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail and American River Parkway are the setting for the annual River City Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K & 5K, which takes runners in the event's half-marathon on a point-to-point course that starts at the half-way point of the full marathon at Goethe Park and finishes at Discovery Park in Sacramento. The race is open to both runners and walkers, and all participants have seven hours in which to complete the race.

Run on paved trails through Sacramento park system known as the American River Parkway, the race starts those running the half-marathon off at Goethe Park and takes them first over the bridge over the American River, and then immediately south down along the trail as it winds its way westward, keeping close to the banks of the river. Runners pass by and through a number of local park areas along the way, including the California Expo and Fair and Waterworld USA.

The surface for the race course is paved for the entire race, and is largely fast and flat with a few rolling hills along the way. Runners finish the race in Discovery Park, where there will be a post-race barbecue for all finishers and their friends, families and spectators. Organizers add that participants may not bring iPods, radios or headphones with them during the race, and the half marathon starts at 8:30 AM.
