California > Rock & Roll Los Angeles Halloween Half Marathon
Los Angeles, CA  •  Sunday, October 27, 2013  •  Course Map  •  Series Calendar

Set for its fourth annual running as a member of the Rock & Roll-themed series of races on the weekend before Halloween in October 2013, after many years on California's fall race calendar as the City of Angels Half Marathon, the Rock & Roll Los Angeles Half Marathon saw just over 9,000 runners cross the finish line in all race combined in 2012, including just over 8,000 in the half marathon alone.

The race features an out-and-back route that started and finished at L.A. Live, the entertainment complex located near the Staples Center, the concert venue and home of the NBA's Lakers basketball team. From there, the course takes runners on a pair of out-and-back stretches that lead away from the Staples Center and back, with the first taking runners south toward the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and Exposition Park.

Runners make their way around the famous Coliseum, the site of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1984 Summer Olympics as well as a filming location for a number of movies and television shows over the years, from Jerry Maguire to 24. Once they run around the park and the circumference of the coliseum, they return to Exposition Boulevard and head east, running back onto South Figueroa Street to head northeast back in the direction of the starting line.

The next stretch of the course brings runners northward into downtown Los Angeles, taking them past a number of the city's most recognizable buildings and tourist sites like the Shrine Auditorium, the Million Dollar Theater and the U.S. Bank Tower, whose 73 stories make it the tallest building in the U.S. west of the Mississippi River. They'll also cross the 6th Street Bridge, from which they'll be able to see the legendary Hollywood sign off in the distance in the Hollywood Hills.

Runners will have four hours to finish the half marathon -- note that this time is according to each runner's own personal chip time, not the overall starting gun time for the race. For those who don't feel up to running 13.1 miles, the event also hosts a 3.5-mile "mini marathon," which shares the same starting line and time as the half marathon -- 7:30 AM.
