California's Wounded Warrior Half Marathon takes runners on an out-and-back tour of Point Mugu and Naval Base Ventura County, which lies just over an hour's drive west from downtown Los Angeles.

At left, half-marathoners Aaron Heldreth (bib #709) and Jill Lemasters (#278) beat a path to the finish line at the September 2011 running of Point Mugu, California's Wounded Warrior Half Marathon, which saw just over 660 runners and walkers cross the finish line in the 13.1-mile, 5K and one-mile races combined. The race is run as a tribute to American service men and women who have been injured in combat, notably those from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and from all U.S. conflicts.
