Colorado > Denver Half Marathon & 10K Trail Race

After a three-year hiatus from Denver's road running and racing calendar, the Denver Half Marathon returned in 2010 to the Cherry Creek Reservoir just to the southeast of the city, with a course that will take runners along a course made up mostly of the natural-surface dirt trails around the 880-acre lake reservoir, which is a popular spot for local residents for boating and camping as well as hiking, walking and running, thanks to the numerous trails throughout its rolling hills.
Limited to 1,000 entrants -- 590 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined in 2011 -- the Denver Half Marathon and 10K features an out-and-back route that starts and finishes near the western entrance to the Cherry Creek Reservoir. After parking their cars across the street from the entrance at nearby Campus Middle School on South Dayton Street, runners will be able to walk across to the race starting line area from there.
The race organizers at Colorado's Endurance Sports add that the 13.1-mile course through the reservoir park area is mostly flat, and will be made up of a combination of the biking and hiking trails that criss-cross through the hills around the reservoir, as well as paved stretches along the park roads that wind their way around the lake.
Runners may sign up for the event on the day of the race (provided that entry spots still remain on race day).
Race Weather & Climate
Located just a few miles from downtown Denver, Aurora typically sees September temperatures that average between 45°F and 79°F, while rainfall totals average just over 1.4 inches for the month. On the day of the race (Sept. 8), the average low is 48°F and the average high is 81°F.
