Heart Center of the Rockies Half Marathon, 10K & 5K in Loveland, CO

With a day full of races -- the event features a half-marathon, 10K and 5K runs and 10K and 5K walking races -- the Heart Center of the Rockies Half Marathon benefits the city's Boyd Lake State Park, and takes runners on a picturesque course through the park's woodland forest areas and along the shorelines of four different area lakes and features both paved and natural surfaces.

Just over 850 runners crossed the finish line at the race's fall 2010 running, including 446 runners in the half marathon alone. For the race's 2011 running, there will also be two races for kids -- a 4/10-mile "short course" race that starts at 8:00 AM, and an 8/10-mile "long course" race that starts at 8:15 AM.

Runners start the half marathon race near the office building of Loveland's Medical Center of the Rockies, and follow a point-to-point course that takes them first around Equalizer Lake and Houts Reservoir, and then onto the dirt road that heads toward County Road 9. Once runners hit this stretch, they turn right and head north along C.R. 9 toward County Road 30, where they turn left and run straight until County Road 11c, where they turn left again and head south toward Boyd Lake State Park.

The last couple of miles of the race unfold entirely within Boyd Lake State Park, as runners make their way toward the finish line near the lakeshore. The course features only slight elevation changes, as runners traverse the hills and inclines of the park terrain. The half marathon starting time is scheduled for 8:30 AM.

Race Weather & Climate

Located just east of the Rocky Mountains in central northern Colorado, roughly 45 miles north of Denver and about 13 miles south of Fort Collins, Loveland typically sees November temperatures that average between 51°F and 23°F, while precipitation totals average about 0.7 inches for the month. On the day of the race (Nov. 5), the average high is 55°F and the average low is 27°F.
