Colorado > Race for Open Space Half Marathon, 5K & 10K
Denver, CO • Sunday, April 13, 2014 • Course Map
Runners will converge on Denver's Sand Creek Park for the annual Race for Open Space Half Marathon, 5K & 10K, an event that raises money for local open space nonprofits like the Sand Creek Regional Greenway Partnership and the Bluff Lake Nature Center, both of which runners will get to see and experience during the race.
Throughout the race's 13.1 miles, runners will follow the Sand Creek Greenway, a 14-mile-long undiscovered gem of a nature trail starts at the High Line Canal in Aurora and connects with the South Platte River Greenway in nearby Commerce City. Along the way, it takes runners, walkers, hikers and bikers through Denver and the Stapleton community.
Each of the three race courses in this event will highlight the some of the beauties along this urban trail. All three races start and finish -- beginning with a staggered wave start at 7:30 AM -- with a scenic view at Bluff Lake and wind around Sand Creek Park.
The Half Marathon will split off to see the hundred year old cotton woods around Star K Ranch. About three-fourths of the course is made up of crusher fine trail, while the remainder is paved. It is a relatively flat run that's perfect for both first half-marathoners as well as experienced runners, where you enjoy the urban landscape that is the scenic Denver Greenway.
