Event Details

Anyone interested in participating in the Run the Rockies Half Marathon needs to be prepared for a high-altitude run, as this central Colorado town sits at an elevation of 9,100 feet above sea level high the Rocky Mountain range to the west of Denver. The course for the weekend's events -- the race includes both a half-marathon and a 10K for runners and walkers -- takes runners over both paved surfaces and dirt mountain bike trails, with breathtaking views of the peaks and valleys surrounding the town.

The race begins in Copper Mountain south of Frisco, and takes participants northward along Interstate 70 to Frisco. Fully 75 percent of the race is along downhill runs, which eases the challenge of running in the mountains.

Race Weather & Climate

Even though this event takes place just as summer is beginning, weather conditions can still be quite cold in the Frisco area, as June temperatures average between 34°F and 67°F. Rainfall is rarely a factor for the event, as the month's average precipitation is only just over an inch on average.

Fees

$35 for half-marathon participants
$25 for 10K Run/Walk participants
