Details
The fast, flat and scenic trails along the Chesapeake &
Delaware Canal are the setting for the C&D Marathon Run Fest, a
day of running events that features a full marathon, half marathon, 10K
& 5K and takes runners on a course to enjoy the fall colors and
changing leaves between the small Delaware towns of St. George's and
Delaware City. Popular with outdoor enthusiasts from around the region
thanks to its abundant wildlife and water for kayaking and canoeing as
well as trails for hiking and running, the area's scenery is a big draw
for the more than 160 runners who crossed the finish line at the race's
2007 running.
With its 26.2-mile course named as a qualifying event for the Boston
Marathon, and sanctioned by USA Track & Field, the race course
for
all events starts and finishes at the corner of Main Street and
Delaware Street in St. George's, which lies just a few miles west of
Delaware City. From there, the course takes runners along long
stretches of the canal, showing off the area's estuary marshes as well
as its historic buildings, many of which date from the 19th and early
20th century eras.
