Florida > USA Beach Running Championships Half Marathon & 10K
Cocoa Beach, FL  •  Sunday, October 27, 2013  •  Course Map

Runners will get a chance to run along the flat, sandy beaches here on what is known as Florida's "Space Coast" -- thanks to its location just down the beach from Cape Canaveral and NASA's John F. Kennedy Space Center -- at the 3rd annual running in 2013 of the U.S.A. Beach Running Championships, which will feature both the half marathon and 10K distances.

Organized by a local running organization known as the Beach Running Association, which gathers trail and beach runners together for group runs in the Cocoa Beach area, the race will take runners on an out-and-back route along the beach that's timed to coincide with low tide. The exact route of the course will be determined on the morning of the race, depending on the local conditions -- though runners can expect that it will be roughly 6.55 miles out from the start, and 6.55 miles back.

The race is open to both runners and walkers -- organizers say that you can either wear shoes or not, it's totally your choice since you'll be running on the beach -- and medals will be given out to all finishers in the half marathon. The starting time for the race is 7:15 AM for the half marathon and 7:30 AM for the 10K, and the race will start and finish at the Cocoa Beach Pier on Meade Avenue.

Race Weather & Climate

Located about half-way down Florida's Atlantic coastline, roughly 60 miles east of Orlando, Cocoa Beach typically sees much more comfortable weather in the fall than in the summer, as the city's average October temperatures range between 67°F and 83°F.

On the day of the race (Oct. 27), the average low is 65°F and the average high is 81°F, while rainfall totals average just over 4.7 inches for the month.
