Event Details

Run along a several miles long stretch of the Pinellas Trail, a 34-mile urban trail now used for biking, jogging and walking that once served as a railroad for the CSX rail line here in central Florida, the Blue Moon Half Marathon & 5K takes runners along tree-lined paved pathways that run past golf courses and residential neighborhoods here in this community just outside Tampa-St. Petersburg, for a race whose proceeds go to benefit the Childhood Obesity Foundation.

Both the half marathon and the 5K races start and finish in Pop Stansell Park, which lies just off Florida Avenue. From there, runners follow the course first southward along the Pinellas Trail, which winds roughly parallel to Bayshore Boulevard, also known as Highway 19. The route runs southward all the way down to the intersection with Curlew Road near the Dunedin Country Club, where runners turn around and start heading north.

The next stretch of the race is all northward along the trail, taking runners back up through the city and past local landmarks like Crystal Beach and the Sutherland Bayou, just off the waters of Saint Joseph Sound. The race's second turnaround lies just before the Pinellas Trail's intersection with Klosterman Road, where runners then turn around once again and head southward back to Pop Stansell Park for the finish.
