Details
Featuring a course that's quite unlike any other in the world, the
Daytona Beach Half Marathon takes runners on a 13.1-mile course from
the world center of NASCAR racing to one of the world's most famous
beaches and back. Run entirely on paved surfaces between the Daytona
International Speedway and the beaches (there's no beach run), the race
begins with a lap on the track around Daytona International
Speedway, alongside its famous 31-degree bankings, which measure three
stories
tall.
After exiting the track, runners will dash past DAYTONA 500 Experience,
the Official Attraction of NASCAR, and then head east
toward the Atlantic Ocean. Runners cross over the beautiful Halifax
River and getting a first glimpse of the Atlantic, competitors
will soon reach what local organizers call the "World's Most Famous
Beach" at about the
7.2-mile mark. At that point, just a few steps from the ocean, runners
will turn around and begin their trip back to the Speedway and finish
line. The return includes another trip over the Intracoastal Waterway,
as well as a run past one of the nation’s oldest historically
African-American colleges, Bethune-Cookman University.
At the 13-mile mark, runners will re-enter the Speedway and make a
final sprint down the track’s famed
front stretch, and the race will appropriately end at
the Speedway’s historic finish line. The Daytona
Beach Half Marathon Post-Race Party will be held in the
Sprint FanZone at the Budweiser Bistro located inside Daytona
International Speedway.
All finishing runners will receive a race medal at the
finish line and enjoy complimentary food such as
fruit and bagels, while checking out sponsor booths and cheering on
their fellow finishers. The Daytona Beach Half Marathon Awards Ceremony will be
held in Gatorade Victory Lane at 10:00 a.m. The top three overall male
and female finishers will receive awards, and awards will be presented
for the top three male and female positions in each age division.
