Details
One of Florida's smaller road race events that takes runners across
what past participants describe as a "pancake flat" course through the
state's rural Ocala National Forest countryside, the DeLeon Springs
Half Marathon & 5K marks its 26th annual running in the winter
of 2010, when it is expected to welcome around a hundred runners or so
for the 13.1-mile event. This out-and-back race starts and finishes at
Chuck Lennon Park and is considered an excellent choice for runners
looking to set personal record times, thanks to its flat course and
usually perfect running weather conditions, as it typically enjoys
temperatures in the low 70s on the day of the race.
The race's organizers add that finisher's medals will be presented to
every runner who crosses the finish line, as well as long-sleeve race
shirts for all entrants who sign up to receive them (see the race fee
information below). Organizers also add that after the race, many
participants take in the local fare like that at the Olde Spanish Sugar
Mill at the nearby DeLeon Springs State Park, just north of Spring
Garden Lake.

Weather & Climate
Located in central Florida, about an hour's drive north from Orlando
and just a few miles east of the Ocala National Forest, the town of
DeLeon Springs typically experiences mild winter seasons and warm to
often hot summer seasons, with plenty of rainfall year-round (but
usually much heavier rainfall in the summer months). In January, the
area's average monthly temperatures range between 70°F and
44°F, while rainfall totals average around 3.35 inches for the
month.
