Event Details

More than 6,300 runners crossed the finish line at the inaugural running of Walt Disney World's Disney Princess Half Marathon and Royal Family 5K in the early spring of 2009, along a point-to-point route that starts along the racetrack of the resort's Richard Petty Speedway and finishes in the parking lot of its Epcot Center, in the shadow of the center's famed Spaceship Earth globe.

The 2010 running of the race will bring the addition of a new series of kids' races as well as a one-mile fun run, and the half marathon will take runners through many of the tree-lined and sun-splashed resort's most scenic and famed attractions, including the Disney Animal Kingdom, its MGM Studios exhibit, the green fairways of the Walt Disney World Golf Complex and the World Showcase Lagoon just south of Epcot, which runners will follow the pathways around in their final stretch to the race finish.

The course for the half marathon will take runners over paved surfaces throughout the resort, mostly on the roadways and paths that run through and between the exhibit areas along the race route. Runners can expect mostly flat surfaces for the first mile and the last couple of miles of the race, with some hills especially between mile markers 5 and 7, the stretch of the race that takes participants through the Disney Animal Kingdom.

In keeping with the event's "princess" theme, the race is devoted to helping women of all ages achieve better fitness and awareness about their health, as all but just under 200 of the more than 6,300 half marathon finishers in 2009 were women.

Race Weather & Climate

Located just a few miles northeast of the Walt Disney World resort, the city of Orlando typically experiences mild to moderately warm weather conditions in the early spring season, and typically drier weather in the spring than in the summer months. In March, the city's average monthly temperatures range between 79°F and 56°F, while rainfall amounts average just over 3.5 inches for the month.

Fees

$120 for the half marathon, for individual entrants
