Details
Organized by the Sarasota chapter of the Fellowship of Christian
Athletes and run along a scenic, rural course past a number of lakes
just west of the city, the FCA Half Marathon & 10K offers
runners the chance to run a race that's off the beaten path as well as
a chance to give back to the local community of Sarasota, Manatee and
Charlotte
counties. With course that's neither an out-and-back nor a loop course,
the course features three turnaround points and is designed so that
runners of different speed will encounter one another at several points
during the race.
The race starts at Sarasota's Church of Hope on Wendell Kent Road, and
takes runners from the 7:45 AM start along Wendell Kent and Lakewood
Ranch Boulevard before turning onto Deer Drive for the first short
out-and-back stretch of the race. Runners follow Deer Drive all the way
to the intersection with Polo Club Lane, where they turn around and
head back down Deer Drive and turn right (north) on Lakewood Ranch and
then right again Communications Parkway, following the road as it turns
into Professional Parkway.
Runners next follow a brief out-and-back stretch along Lake Osprey
Drive and then return to Professional Parkway, following the road
through the Lakewood Ranch Corporate Park area back to Lakewood Ranch
Boulevard to Wendell Kent Road, and finally to the finish line back at
the Church of Hope. Mostly fast and flat through the entire race
course, the event experiences only a few gently rolling hills and is
run on paved surfaces throughout the race, with the exception of a
couple of brief stretches of dirt road.
Race
Weather & Climate
Located just off Florida's Gulf coast, about an hour's drive south of
Tampa, the city of Sarasota typically experiences warm to occasionally
mild weather conditions in the early fall, with much lower rainfall on
average than the preceding summer months. In October, average monthly
temperatures range between 85°F and 65°F, while
rainfall totals average about 2.88 inches for the month.

$35 for runners in the 10K
