Event Details

Run as a benefit to support and raise awareness of the local nonprofit Girls Incorporated of Bay County in the Panama City Beach area, the Girls Incorporated Half Marathon was run for the first time ever in the fall of 2008, when it welcomed just over 60 runners for its 13.1-mile race and just over 180 runners overall for a race along the fast, flat streets of Panama City Beach, just a stone's throw from the white sandy beaches in the area known as the Emerald Coast along Florida's Gulf coastline.

The out-and-back race starts and finishes at Panama City's Pier Park, and takes runners through the scenic stretches of the area's neighborhoods and beachfront stretches, with long straightaway stretches along Middle Beach Road and Front Beach Road in the second half of the course. Runners will also run through the lush, green, tree-lined golf courses of Edgewater Beach Resort and Hombre Golf Club, which will offer some shade from the sun that's typically out this time of year.

After running through the Hombre Golf Club and making the turn south onto Hombre Circle and then onto South Glades Trail, runners then follow the course as it winds through the residential areas just south of the golf course, and takes them out toward the beach for the home stretch along Front Beach Road. This section of the race is perhaps its straightest and longest, and takes runners all the way to the finish line back at Pier Park, along the park's southern edge.

Race Weather & Climate

Nestled along the beaches of northwestern part of the state known as the Florida panhandle, Panama City typically sees mild to moderately warm weather conditions in the mid-fall season, and usually much drier weather than in the late summer and early fall. In October, average monthly temperatures range between 79°F and 55°F, while rainfall totals average around 3.5 inches for the month.

Fees

$50 for the half marathon
$35 for the 5K
$95 per team for the 2-person relay
