Details
Organized by the Sailfish Striders, a local running club based in the
south Florida town of Stuart, the Martin County Half Marathon is set to
be run on an entirely new course for its 2008 running, along the
streets that run through Florida's Hutchinson Island, just to the east
of the town. The new course is designed to take runners through a
three-mile stretch of the local area known as Sewall's Point, as well
as past the Indian River Plantation Golf Club and along the island's
Ocean Boulevard.
The out-and-back loop course for the race will take runners on a
counter-clockwise direction through the island and through Stuart,
starting at Jensen Beach Public Beach. From there, runners follow the
course across the Northeast Causeway Boulevard to the town of Jensen
Beach, through Ocean Breeze Park along Indian River Drive, which
becomes Sewalls Point Road. Runners follow the course all the way down
to Sewalls Point and Port Sewall, where they make the turn and then
start heading back northward along South River Road to East Ocean
Boulevard, which takes them back over to Hutchinson Island and the last
few miles toward the finish line along the oceanfront.
