Details
The tree-lined streets of Atlanta's northside are the setting for the
inaugural
running of the 13.1 Marathon Atlanta, part of a series of half marathon
races that are set to be run also in Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Miami
in 2009. From the starting line at the campus of Oglethorpe University,
which lies just north of the famed Lenox Square mall, runners will make
their way through the neighborhoods and parks in this mostly
residential part of the city.
Open to both runners and walkers -- the race course is scheduled to
remain open for 3 1/2 hours -- the event will be run in what is
typically one of Atlanta's nicest-weather seasons, as the early weeks
of autumn bring cooling weather to the city.
