Event Details

Formerly known as the Alpharetta Marathon & Half Marathon, the new Alpharetta Half Marathon & Life Time 10K is one of several half-marathon events that take place in Georgia in the late winter and early spring, and takes runners on a tour of the Atlanta metropolitan area’s northern suburbs, for a “hilly but not too tough” race according to one of the 2007 event’s participants. The single-loop course for the race starts at Alpharetta’s downtown City Hall Complex and includes plenty of North Fulton County scenery and gentle, rolling hills on the way to the finish line on Lakeview Parkway near Haynes Bridge Road.

Participants arriving from out of town are advised to get the lay of the land for the race route early enough on Saturday to avoid getting lost on the way to the race (early!) Sunday morning. The event has a starting time of 7:00 AM and last year’s race – which was its inaugural running – had little signage to help out-of-towners navigate their way to the race in the early morning hours.

On the positive side, the Alpharetta race also had “very frequent aid stations, plenty of spectators, and the volunteers will call out your name as you get to the finish line,” added one participant from the 2007 event. Bands and musicians are also on hand to cheer runners on throughout the course, every three miles.

As mentioned above, the race has gone through some changes over the years. In past years it was known as the Awesome Alpharetta Half Marathon & 10K and in 2008, it was staged as the Alpharetta Marathon & Half Marathon, as it had dropped the 10K portion of the race for 2008 and combined it with the full, 26.2-mile marathon that had been held on a different date in previous years. For the 2009 race, the full marathon has been replaced with the return of the 10K race distance, sponsored by Lifetime Fitness.
