Details
Nearly 600 runners crossed the finish line in all three races combined
at the 2008 running of Warner Robins' annual Museum of Aviation
Foundation Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K, which takes
participants on a charming, scenic, and largely fast and flat course
just outside
the city of Macon in the southern portion of the state. Though
occasionally hilly (most significantly around mile 5), the race route
offers a mostly pleasant run around Robins Air Force Base, which lies
right next to the city's downtown areas.
The 13.1-mile course for the half-marathon race follows a single loop
around
the base (the full marathon repeats this loop) over paved city and
military base roads. The starting and finish lines are near the
base’s entry gate, and the post-race walk/cool-down and
awards ceremony is held at the Robins AFB Museum of Aviation
“Century of Flight” hangar.
As with last year's race, the 2009 running of the event has been
scheduled to coincide with
the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, which follows the race
on Monday, January 19.
