Georgia > Norcross Half Marathon & 5K
Norcross, GA  •  Saturday, October 13, 2012  •  Course Map

Set for its second annual running through the streets and neighborhoods of this small city that lies just to the northeast of the metro Atlanta area in the early fall season of 2012, the Norcross Half Marathon is part of the Georgia Cup Health & Wellness Series of running, bike racing and cycling events throughout the summer and fall in the north Georgia region.

Runners in both the half marathon and the 5K race will follow out-and-back courses that start and finish at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church in Norcross, which lies near the intersection of West Jones Bridge Road and Peachtree Corners Circle. From there -- runners in the 5K start their race at 8:15 AM, while those running the half marathon start at 8:30 AM -- the course then heads south, first along Peachtree Corners Circle and then onto Triangle Parkway.

This stretch of the race, which is made up mostly of commerical and office buildings, features some rolling hills but no dramatic uphill or downhill stretches. A couple of turns later onto Data Drive and Spalding Drive put runners back onto Peachtree Corners Circle heading north, where they'll make their way all the way back toward the church and pass the starting line, and then head into the residential neighborhoods that make up most of the rest of the race.

Like the early few miles, the next several miles feature mostly rolling hills at most as runners make their way north for a little over a mile along Jones Bridge Road, and then head into the neighborhoods that lie just blocks from the Chattahoochee River flowing by. Once runners make it through the first half of the course -- and what is probably the race's biggest hilly stretch, along the out-and-back on East Jones Bridge Road around miles 5 and 6 -- they next head into the section of the race on the western side of West Jones Bridge Road, which includes many more turns through the neighborhoods here.

Many of the streets are tree-lined through these neighborhoods, after runners make the turn off Jones Bridge Circle and head onto Clinchfield Trail, which is followed by several more turns in the neighborhood. The home stretch finishes with a gradual uphill back to the finish line at the church. Just over 210 runners crossed the finish line in both races combined at the race's inaugural running in 2011, including 165 finishers in the half marathon.
