Event Details

Featuring a refreshing mix of city streets and the scenic views of nearby Coeur D'Alene Lake, the Coeur D'Alene Marathon & Half Marathon takes runners on a course along an elevation of 2,300 feet above sea level through this winter resort city. The out-and-back half-marathon course begins and ends on Main Street near Coeur D'Alene's Riverside Park, located near the banks of the Spokane River. From there, participants head through both residential neighborhoods and along the North Idaho Centennial Trail, which follows the lakeshore.

Those running in the half marathon follow the same course as the full, 26.2-mile marathon for the first six and a half miles until they reach the half marathon turnaround point (roughly mile 6.5 of the full, at the intersection of the Riverside Park Trail and the Prairie Trail, on the eastern edge of the Coeur D'Alene Resort Golf Course), where they turn around and run the last six miles of the full marathon course back to the finish line at the park.

Along the way, runners will get to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Northern Idaho city, with the Rocky Mountain foothills off in the distance and boats sailing along the blue water of Lake Coeur D'Alene for much of the middle part of the race. Along the way, they'll also pass through a number of city parks and greenspaces like Tubbs Hill Park, McEuen Field and Coeur D'Alene's City Park, as well as run through a stretch of the campus of North Idaho College on both the out and back routes.

The course is made up of paved surfaces throughout the race and takes advantage of many of the scenic views of the North Idaho Centennial Trail Foundation, which is a sponsor of the race. More than 1,100 runners crossed the finish line in the half marathon alone at the race's 2009 running, out of a total race field of just over 1,600 participants in all three races. Headphones and iPods are not allowed for participants during the race, which will be open for a 7-hour time limit.
