Illinois > Chicago Women's Half Marathon & 5K
Chicago, IL  •  Sunday, June 23, 2013  •  Course Map

The Windy City plays host for the second time to this race designed especially for women, the Chicago Women's Half Marathon & 5K, which makes its 2nd annual running on the first official weekend of summer in late June 2012 and also includes a relay event designed to encourage sisters as well as moms and their daughters to sign up and run together.

Runners will start and finish the out-and-back course for the race in downtown Chicago's Grant Park -- the half marathon starts at 6:30 AM, followed by the 5K at 6:50 AM -- which lies along the Lake Michigan shoreline near the mouth of the Chicago River and the Navy Pier, where the city's signature Buckingham Fountain will no doubt be the place many runners and their friends, families and spectators will gather to take photos once the race is done.

Details on the course for the half marathon weren't yet available at this writing, as the race organizers are still in the process of planning and designing the route. When it is made available, it will be published here and on the course map page linked below. Organizers say they plan to make water/hydration stations available about every 1.5 miles along the course, and that the race course will be open for 3 1/2 hours, which means you'll need to keep a pace of 15 minutes per mile or better.

Race officials plan to give out age group awards to the top three female finishers in the following age divisions: age 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80 and above.

Race Weather & Climate

Located along the shores of Lake Michigan in the northeast corner of Illinois, Chicago typically sees June temperatures that average between 61°F and 80°F, while rainfall totals average just over 4 inches for the month.

On the day of the race (June 23), the average low is 63°F and the average high is 82°F.
