Details
Hosted by the Crystal Lakes Park District and CARA (the Chicago Area
Runners Association), the Crystal Lake Half Marathon takes runners on a
tour of this small town in northern Illinois, past the 230-acre lake
from which the town gets its name and through the alternately rolling
and flat terrain of many of its suburban neighborhoods. The race
features a USA Track and Field-certified course and will celebrate its
13th annual running this year.
The out-and-back course for the race -- which unfolds along a course
made up entirely of paved surfaces -- begins and finishes at Crystal
Lake's Lippold Park, a 310-acre mixed use park with several baseball
and softball fields, more than three miles of biking & walking
trails and more than 60 acres of wetland areas near Crystal Lake. From
Lippold Park, the race takes runners first in and around the park and
then eastward along Thornwood Lane, Butternut Drive and Ballard Road,
turning southward once it reaches Haglius Road.
After following the course southward for the next few miles along
Haglius, the course reaches its turnaround point near the small ponds
adjacent to Fairway Drive and Inverway Drive, where runners then begin
their second half of the race back toward the finish line.

Weather & Climate
Located in the northernmost part of the state, about halfway between
Rockford and Chicago, the town of Crystal Lake enjoys mild to
moderately warm weather with relatively plentiful rainfall in the late
summer/early fall. In September, monthly temperatures average between
74°F and 51°F, while rainfall amounts average around
3.63 inches for the month.

$40 on race weekend and the day of the race
