Details
One of the state's smaller, more intimate road races -- 42 runners
crossed the finish line at the 2007 running of the event -- the Mattoon
Beach Multisport Half Marathon takes runners on a challenging course
through the tranquil, picturesque countryside surrounding Lake Mattoon,
a 1,050-acre reservoir in rural southern Illinois' Shelby County.
Described by race organizers as a "challenging out-and-back" race along
the quiet, paved country roads around the lake, the 13.1-mile race
course features a number of hilly stretches that will tax even
experienced runners. The race starts at the Lake Mattoon Beach
lakeshore at 10:00 AM, and organizers request that participants arrive
early (at least by 9:15 or 9:30 AM) in order to be in attendance for
the final race instructions at 9:45 AM.
Runners who enjoy both the race and the local area can participate in
Mattoon Multisport's series of running, triathlon, duathlon and
swimming events throughout the year, generally one each month from May
through October. To learn more about their events, visit their site
listed below.
