Event Details

One of a pair of half-marathon road race events run each year in this northern Illinois city, Moline's Quad Cities Distance Classic Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk welcomed more than 680 runners for both races combined at its 22nd annual running in the spring of 2009, with more than 440 finishers in the half marathon alone. Featuring a starting and finish line on the campus of Moline's Augustana College, the race takes runners on an alternately flat and hilly tour of the city, with some stretches along the mighty Mississippi River.

The race course is a 13.1-mile out-and-back loop course, and follows a mostly clockwise direction from the start at the college. From there, the course runs through the city streets of Moline and Rock Island, and passes by sights like Sunset Park and along the Mississippi River bicycle path. Run on paved surfaces throughout the entire route, the race starts at 7:45 AM and finishes on the stadium track at the track and field complex at Augustana.

Runners need to be aware that the course will re-open to traffic after 10:30 AM, so if you have not finished the race after nearly three hours, then you will need to move to the sidewalks to allow automobile traffic to pass. Also, because the race takes place on Mother's Day, all finishers will receive flowers at the finish line.

Race Weather & Climate

Located on the banks of the Mississippi River along the state's northern border with Iowa, the city of Moline typically enjoys mild to moderately cool weather conditions in the mid-spring. In May, average monthly temperatures range between 73°F and 50°F, while rainfall amounts average around 4.25 inches for the month (making May the city's third-wettest month of the year on average).
