Details
A brand-new half marathon event on Indiana's race calendar, the Morse
Mini Marathon & 5K will see its inaugural running the late
summer/early fall of 2009, along a course that takes runners through
the rural areas just to the north of Indianapolis, through areas that
race organizers describe as "invigorating" with the "fresh air of the
Hoosier Heartland." Designed as a fundraiser for more than 20 athletic
programs for Arcadia's Hamilton Heights School Corporation, the race
will feature a scenic course that runs along the Morse Reservoir and
takes runners past the final resting place of world-renowned AIDS
activist Ryan White, who lived in nearby Kokomo, Ind.
From the starting area at Hamilton Heights High School just south of
town, runners follow an out-and-back course along the highway southward
to the town of Cicero, crossing the reservoir along the way. The course
makes its way through the city streets and neighborhoods of Cicero and
then leads runners out of town onto tree-lined country roads, past farm
fields with grazing cattle and horses as they make their way back to
Arcadia for the finish back at the high school. The race takes runners
on paved surfaces throughout the course, and the terrain is mostly flat
and fast, thanks to the rural areas through which it is run.

Weather & Climate
Located near the center of the state, about a 40-mile drive north from
Indianapolis, the small town of Arcadia typically experiences moderate
to warm weather conditions in the late summer and early fall, as
temperatures reach the mid-80s regularly this time of year. In
September, the town's average monthly temperatures range between
76°F and 51°F, while rainfall totals average around
2.89 inches for the month, bringing drier weather on average than June
and July, which are generally the area's wettest months.
